Position: Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Blackley.
Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 15:00, term time only.
Salary: From £106 per day, DOE

About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and compassionate Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team in a SEND school setting. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a diverse range of complex needs, helping them to develop essential life skills, communication abilities, and independence within a nurturing and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with a wide range of SEND, including autism, communication difficulties, sensory needs, learning disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.

  • Support pupils in engaging with a highly differentiated curriculum tailored to their EHCP outcomes and personal learning goals.

  • Assist with communication development, including pupils who use AAC, PECS, Makaton, or who are non-verbal.

  • Implement positive behaviour support plans, using trauma-informed practice, de-escalation strategies, and a calm, consistent approach.

  • Help pupils with personal care where required, following training and safeguarding procedures.

  • Contribute to creating a safe, structured, and sensory-aware learning environment that promotes emotional regulation and wellbeing.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists (e.g., Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy), and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure a joined-up approach to support.

About You:
We are looking for someone with:

  • Previous experience working in challenging or complex care/education settings.
  • Knowledge and experience of supporting children or young people with additional needs, particularly autism and challenging behaviour.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
  • Patience, resilience, and a genuine commitment to helping every child achieve their potential.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to supporting individual needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available later.
