Shareholder Unit Lead - Interim

Spencer Clarke Group are working closely with a Local Authority in the East Midalnds to appoint an Interim Shareholder Unit Lead to support the oversight and governance of the Council's portfolio of companies.

This is a senior interim assignment focused on strengthening governance, ensuring compliance across subsidiary entities, and supporting the Council's shareholder function.

What's on Offer

Day Rate: £250 - £350 (dependent on experience)
Contract length: 3-6 months initially
Full-time
Hybrid working - 2 days per week onsite
Start: ASAP / subject to notice

The Role

The successful candidate will support the administration and oversight of the Council's group of companies, ensuring appropriate governance structures, reporting arrangements and compliance controls are in place.

Key responsibilities:

• Administering and supporting the running of the Council's portfolio of companies

• Approving remuneration and expenses for Non-Executive Directors

• Responding to queries relating to the company portfolio and shareholder arrangements

• Preparing and coordinating papers for shareholder and governance meetings

• Ensuring business plans, statutory accounts and key corporate documents are maintained appropriately

• Supporting the Commercial Director, Head of Financial Management and Shareholder Representatives in managing the portfolio

• Maintaining oversight of governance processes and ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements

About You

You will ideally have:

• Strong experience in corporate governance, company secretarial, or shareholder oversight

• Knowledge of Companies Act requirements and subsidiary structures

• Experience operating within a Local Authority or public-sector environment

• Confidence working with senior stakeholders and board-level representatives

• A governance-led mindset with strong organisational and risk awareness
