SEN Teaching Assistant - Secondary SEN School (Oldham)

Contract: Full-time / Term-time only

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? We are looking for a committed and resilient individual to join a specialist secondary SEN school in Oldham, supporting students with complex ASC needs.

The Role:
You will work closely with teaching staff to support students with complex autism, helping them to access a tailored curriculum in a structured and supportive environment. This role requires a proactive and patient approach, with a focus on building positive relationships and promoting independence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with complex ASC
• Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes
• Support students with communication, sensory, and behavioural needs
• Implement strategies to manage challenging behaviour positively
• Work closely with teachers and other professionals to support EHCP targets
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment

Essential Requirements:

• Proven experience supporting children or young people with ASC in a school setting
• Strong understanding of autism and associated complex needs
• Ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• A patient, empathetic, and consistent approach
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people

Desirable:

• Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification
• Experience working in a specialist or secondary SEN setting
• Knowledge of strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or TEACCH
