SEN Teaching Assistant - Secondary SEN School (Oldham)
Location: Oldham
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time / Term-time only
Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? We are looking for a committed and resilient individual to join a specialist secondary SEN school in Oldham, supporting students with complex ASC needs.
The Role:
You will work closely with teaching staff to support students with complex autism, helping them to access a tailored curriculum in a structured and supportive environment. This role requires a proactive and patient approach, with a focus on building positive relationships and promoting independence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with complex ASC
- Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes
- Support students with communication, sensory, and behavioural needs
- Implement strategies to manage challenging behaviour positively
- Work closely with teachers and other professionals to support EHCP targets
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
Essential Requirements:
- Proven experience supporting children or young people with ASC in a school setting
- Strong understanding of autism and associated complex needs
- Ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A patient, empathetic, and consistent approach
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Desirable:
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification
- Experience working in a specialist or secondary SEN setting
- Knowledge of strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or TEACCH
