SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: PR3 (Preston)
Start: ASAP
Contract: Full-time or long-term supply

A warm and supportive school in the PR3 area is searching for a caring, resilient and proactive Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team. This role will involve offering consistent 1:1 or small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs and behaviours that may challenge, ensuring they feel safe, understood and able to re-engage with learning.

The school is well-known for its nurturing ethos, strong leadership team and collaborative staff culture. You'll be surrounded by colleagues who share a genuine passion for helping children with complex needs thrive.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs, helping them to regulate and refocus
  • Using de-escalation strategies and calm, consistent communication
  • Building positive, trusting relationships
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams and external professionals
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and emotional resilience
  • Assisting with day-to-day classroom routines and targeted interventions

  • Have experience with SEMH, challenging behaviour or similar high-needs settings
  • Bring a patient, empathetic and grounded approach
  • Stay calm under pressure and keep pupils at the heart of every decision
  • Are reliable, committed and ready to make a real difference
  • Have UK-based work experience (essential)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
