Job Description: SEMH Outreach Learning Support Assistant

Location: Halifax Area - Various SEMH Provision Schools
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30-15:30
Contract: Term Time Only
Daily Rate: £130-£140 per day

Overview

We are seeking a motivated and resilient SEMH Outreach Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs across multiple specialist provision schools within the Halifax area. This role involves travelling between sites to deliver targeted support, help pupils overcome barriers to learning, and promote positive engagement both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group interventions to pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and coping strategies.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral teams to implement individualised support plans.

  • Assist in delivering structured learning activities and curriculum-based work.

  • Promote a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils who may present with challenging behaviours.

  • Support attendance, engagement, and confidence building.

  • Maintain accurate records, progress notes, and safeguarding documentation.

  • Liaise with external agencies, parents, and wider support networks where required.

  • Use de-escalation strategies and restorative approaches to manage difficult situations.

Desired Experience

Experience in any of the following roles is beneficial:

  • Teaching Assistant

  • Youth Worker

  • Support Worker

  • Behaviour Mentor

Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, Trauma, ASD, ADHD, and attachment needs is highly advantageous.

Requirements

  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in Childcare (or equivalent)

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car (essential)

  • Enhanced DBS Check (or willingness to obtain)

  • Right to Work in the UK

  • Professional references covering the last 2 years

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection (training can be provided)
