Hours: Rotating weekly shifts

  • Week A: 9:00am - 12:00pm

  • Week B: 9:00am - 3:00pm

Job Purpose

We are seeking a practical, reliable, and enthusiastic Food Technology Assistant to support teaching and learning within the Food Technology department. The successful candidate will assist with lesson preparation, classroom support, and maintaining a safe and well-organised learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Food Technology teacher during practical lessons

  • Prepare ingredients, equipment, and resources for lessons

  • Assist pupils during practical cooking activities, ensuring safety and hygiene standards are met

  • Maintain cleanliness of the food technology room, including washing equipment and work surfaces

  • Ensure food hygiene, health and safety, and risk assessments are followed at all times

  • Support stock control, ordering, and safe storage of food and equipment

  • Assist with setting up and clearing down classrooms before and after lessons

  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement during lessons

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Catering Assistant

  • Knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety procedures

  • Ability to work effectively with students and staff in a school environment

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexibly across rotating shifts

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a school Food Technology department

  • Relevant food hygiene qualification
