Job Title: School Finance Officer

Location: Bury
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm
Pay Rate: £18 per hour

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced School Finance Officer to manage the day-to-day financial operations of a school in Bury. The role involves overseeing school accounts, advising senior leaders, and ensuring all financial procedures are followed accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the school's accounting function in line with agreed procedures

  • Provide financial reports and advice to the Senior Management Team

  • Oversee ordering, invoicing, payments, and reconciliation of accounts

  • Manage school fund accounts, income, fees, and recovery of debts

  • Monitor budgets for trips, lettings, and school activities

  • Liaise with auditors, finance partners, and external agencies

  • Obtain quotes and advise staff on best value for money

  • Line manage and support a small finance team where applicable

Qualifications / Training

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills

  • AAT Intermediate, NVQ Level 3 in Business & Finance, or equivalent qualification

  • Alternatively, significant relevant experience in a finance role

Experience / Knowledge / Skills

  • 3-5 years' experience working in an office environment at a senior finance level

  • Some experience of leading or supervising a small team

  • Strong ICT skills and effective use of finance systems and specialist software

  • Full working knowledge of relevant financial policies, codes of practice, and awareness of relevant legislation

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team within a school environment

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload

  • Methodical approach with excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and presentational skills

  • Ability to plan, develop, and improve financial systems

  • Ability to relate well to both children and adults

Administration & Safeguarding

  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation

  • Support general school administration when required

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people

  • Comply with all safeguarding, health & safety, and data protection requirements
