Job Title: School Caretaker
Locations: Blackburn, Darwen, Burnley & Accrington

Pay Rate: £17 per hour
Hours:

  • Typical Split Shifts: 6:30am - 9:00am & 3:00pm - 6:00pm

  • Some roles may be full day shifts (e.g. 6:00am - 2:00pm)
    📅 Contract: Temporary to Permanent

About the Roles:
We are currently recruiting multiple School Caretakers to work across a number of schools in Blackburn, Darwen, Burnley, and Accrington. Each site will require one dedicated candidate, so we are looking to fill several positions simultaneously.

Caretakers play a vital role in ensuring the school site is clean, safe, secure, and well-maintained. These positions are ideal for reliable and skilled individuals with a maintenance or handyman/women background who can work independently and take pride in their work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Open and secure the school premises, including alarm setting and site checks.

  • Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and DIY tasks around the school.

  • Ensure the site and buildings are safe, clean, and well-presented at all times.

  • Conduct routine health & safety inspections, reporting any issues promptly.

  • Liaise with contractors and school staff to support site operations.

  • Assist with moving furniture, setting up rooms, and supporting school events as needed.

  • Respond to emergencies and site-related issues in a timely manner.

Requirements:

  • Previous caretaking, site management, or maintenance/handyman experience is desirable.

  • Good practical skills for carrying out repairs and general site maintenance.

  • Knowledge of health & safety procedures.

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.

  • An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
