School Business Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and committed School Business Manager to join a welcoming and inclusive school in Rochdale. This is a key leadership role, supporting the Headteacher and Governing Body in the strategic and operational management of the school.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the school runs efficiently, safely and compliantly, allowing leaders and teachers to focus on delivering the best outcomes for pupils.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on the financial management of the school, including budget planning, monitoring, forecasting and preparing accounts

  • Oversee and develop administrative systems to ensure effective and efficient school operations

  • Line manage administrative and support staff, promoting a positive and professional working culture

  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, legislation and statutory guidance, particularly in finance, HR, health & safety and data protection

  • Support safeguarding processes and maintain strict confidentiality at all times

  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders, governors and external partners

  • Attend meetings outside of school hours where required

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • GCSE English and Maths (A*-C / 9-4) or equivalent

  • Level 4 qualification in a relevant discipline

  • Experience managing school or organisational budgets, cash handling and accounts

  • Experience developing and improving administrative systems

  • Line management experience

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection

  • Strong knowledge of data protection and confidentiality

  • Competent user of MS Word, Excel, Outlook (and similar systems)

  • Ability to interpret statutory guidance and contribute to policy development

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines

Desirable

  • ECDL or equivalent qualification (or willingness to undertake)

  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to train as an appointed person)

  • Experience working in a school or with children

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
