Lead Finance Officer - Interim

Spencer Clarke Group are working closely with a Midlands Local Authority to appoint an Interim Lead Finance Officer to provide high-quality financial business partnering support across the organisation.

This is a senior interim assignment focused on delivering robust budget monitoring, financial forecasting and performance reporting, while supporting and challenging budget holders to drive efficiency and value for money.

Rate: £400 - £500 per day
Contract length: 4 months initially (possible extension)

The Role

The successful candidate will provide a full business partnering service to senior stakeholders across the Council.

Key responsibilities:

• Leading monthly budget monitoring meetings with budget holders.

• Producing timely and accurate management information.

• Detailed variance analysis and full-year forecasting.

• Acting as a key finance contact for service areas.

• Challenging existing practices to drive efficiencies and cost savings.

• Supporting and training budget holders where required.

• Developing and monitoring KPIs to improve financial performance.

About You

You will ideally have:

• Significant Local Authority or Public Sector finance experience.

• Strong background in business partnering and stakeholder challenge.

• Proven experience in budget monitoring and forecasting.

• Advanced Excel and financial systems knowledge.

• CCAB qualification (CIPFA / ACCA / CIMA / ACA) desirable.
