Spencer Clarke Group are working closely with a Local Authority to appoint an Internal Auditor to join a shared internal audit service supporting multiple London Boroughs.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop within public sector audit, working across a wide range of services and gaining exposure to risk, governance and control frameworks in a complex local authority environment.

The Role
The successful candidate will support the delivery of internal audit assignments across multiple councils, providing independent assurance and helping to strengthen governance, risk and control processes.
Key responsibilities:
- Planning and preparing internal audit assignments, including research and audit briefs
- Undertaking audit fieldwork, including interviews, testing and evaluation of systems and controls
- Drafting clear, concise audit reports with practical recommendations
- Communicating findings to stakeholders and agreeing actions to improve controls
- Ensuring audits are delivered to agreed timelines, budgets and quality standards
- Supporting risk-based reviews across a range of council services
- Collaborating with colleagues and contributing to continuous improvement within the audit function
About You
You will ideally have:
- Part-qualified or working towards an internal audit or accountancy qualification (CIA / CIPFA / ACCA or similar), or relevant audit experience
- Experience working within an internal audit environment, ideally within the public sector
- Understanding of governance, risk and control frameworks
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present findings clearly
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders
