A new specialist secondary school for young people aged 11-16, opening in the Surrey area, is seeking to appoint an ICT Teacher. The school supports learners with social communication differences, emotional regulation needs and sensory processing profiles, typically associated with autism. Students follow an adapted curriculum aligned to the national curriculum, personalised to support their interests and needs. Small class sizes, strong classroom support and a multi-disciplinary team form the foundation of the school's approach.
The role is based mainly at the Chaldon-area site, with occasional work required at a nearby satellite provision in the Caterham area.
Main Purpose of the Role:
To deliver high-quality teaching and learning for students with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing needs. Some learners may present with additional learning difficulties or behaviours that challenge. The teacher will support personalised progress and contribute to the continued growth of the school.
Key Duties:
Deliver and contribute to curriculum planning within a supportive learning environment.
Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and multi-disciplinary professionals.
Maintain detailed short-, medium- and long-term plans.
Set, monitor and review personalised targets for students.
Assess, track and report on progress to parents, colleagues and external bodies.
Plan lessons, review delivery and adapt practice based on outcomes.
Contribute to statutory reviews including EHCP, PEP and LAC meetings.
Deliver well-structured lessons with clear progression and challenge.
Stay up to date with developments in autism and SEND practice.
Manage behaviour in accordance with school policies using a non-confrontational approach.
Support wider duties across the school as required.
Candidate Requirements:
PGCE, QTS or equivalent teaching qualification with evidence of CPD.
Ability to teach ICT up to GCSE level.
Experience or understanding of working with students with complex needs and SEND.
Knowledge of the national curriculum.
Understanding of autism and associated co-occurring conditions.
Experience in adapting curriculum and resources for SEND learners.
