Spencer Clarke Group are seeking a Housing & Welfare Officer for a Local Authority Client in Walsall.

In this role, you will provide housing and welfare advice, prevent and resolve homelessness, support vulnerable residents, and represent them in tribunals and court hearings.

Duties:

  • Provide advice on housing, homelessness, welfare benefits, and income maximisation, assisting residents to access suitable accommodation.
  • Assess housing applications, make decisions under homelessness legislation, and manage temporary accommodation placements.
  • Represent residents in tribunals and court hearings, liaising with landlords, agencies, and stakeholders to resolve complex cases.
  • Act as first point of contact for residents, maintain accurate records, handle correspondence, and support service improvements.

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate will have the following skills / experience:

  • Proven experience working with housing legislation, homelessness prevention, and housing options.
  • Experience advising on welfare benefits, income maximisation, and support for vulnerable residents.
  • Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with internal teams, external agencies, and community partners.
  • Experience managing complex cases, making informed decisions, and representing clients at tribunals or court hearings.

What's on offer:

Salary: £20ph

*may negotiate higher for exceptional candidates, based on experience*

Contract type: 3-6 months minimum, with a high likelihood of extension

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week
