About the School and Role

A warm and welcoming primary school in Preston is looking for a passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible.

This is a split role - you'll spend your mornings as a General Teaching Assistant supporting pupils across the classroom, and your afternoons delivering Phonics interventions to small groups in Year 2 and Year 3.

If you love helping children develop their reading and writing skills and enjoy being part of a busy classroom, this could be the perfect fit.

Morning Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher with daily lessons and group activities.

  • Work with pupils across the class to keep them focused and confident.

  • Encourage independence and positive learning behaviours.

  • Help maintain a calm, organised, and engaging classroom environment.

Afternoon Responsibilities

  • Lead focused Phonics sessions for small groups in Years 2 and 3.

  • Follow structured phonics programmes such as Little Wandle, Read Write Inc., or Letters and Sounds.

  • Track pupil progress and share updates with the class teacher and SENCO.

  • Create fun, engaging activities to help pupils develop reading fluency and phonetic understanding.

About You

  • Experience working within a primary school environment (EYFS, KS1 or lower KS2).

  • Good understanding of early reading and Phonics principles.

  • Confident delivering small-group interventions.

  • Positive, patient, and enthusiastic about helping children progress.

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
