We are currently working with a public client in Gateshead to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Family Time Worker. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children in care and their families by ensuring safe, meaningful, and well-managed contact sessions.

In this role, you will facilitate and supervise family time between Children in Our Care and their families, ensuring that children experience safe, high-quality contact when living apart from family members. You will observe, record, and report on interactions, making sure all relevant information is accurately documented and actioned appropriately.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise family time sessions to ensure safe, positive, and child-focused contact.
  • Accurately observe, record, and report on contact sessions, ensuring all documentation meets national and Local Authority guidance.
  • Transport children and family members to and from contact sessions as required, using appropriate venues.
  • Provide detailed updates and high-quality reports for meetings and statutory reviews.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure secure handling of sensitive information.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team, while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.
  • Maintain high professional standards and stay informed of relevant legislation, research, and good practice in family support.
  • Contribute to inspections and service reviews where required (e.g., Ofsted).

Key responsibilities:

  • Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle.
  • Sound understanding of child and young people's development, safeguarding thresholds, and issues affecting vulnerable children and families.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality requirements, including the secure handling and sharing of sensitive information.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries, equality, and anti-oppressive practice.
  • Experience working directly with children and families at risk or in need, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills, including report writing, workload prioritisation, and use of Microsoft Office and Outlook.


Contract Length: 3 months initially with the view of an extension.
Pay Rate: £15-£19 (Negotiable DOE).
Working pattern - 37 hours per week, onsite.
