Job description:
As the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), you will handle safeguarding referrals through our system, ensuring adherence to our safeguarding policies. While some tasks may be delegated to deputies, the DSL remains responsible for overseeing the quality of their work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on safeguarding, behaviour management, and policy implementation.
- Coordinate the Attendance Policy and respond swiftly to support children in need.
- Liaise with parents/carers, providing data and training to staff, and ensure compliance in reporting.
- Supervise the Behaviour Support Specialist and deputies while managing external safeguarding referrals.
- Oversee pastoral, wellbeing, and behavioural support policies and maintain effective communication with parents, staff, and agencies.
- Collaborate with Service Leads on strategic planning, policy development, and service improvement.
- Ensure compliance with statutory guidelines, including Ofsted regulations.
Leadership & Management:
- Partner with Service Leads on day-to-day operations, staff recruitment, training, and policy implementation.
- Manage CPD for staff and oversee the induction of new staff and volunteers, ensuring all safeguarding requirements are met.
- Supervise deputies and manage staff wellbeing strategies.
- Lead investigations related to safeguarding and staff issues.
Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Report to governance on service improvement and monitor behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing.
- Address persistent absence or lateness through appropriate strategies.
- Maintain accurate safeguarding records and ensure timely execution of action plans.
Children & Young People:
- Ensure the wellbeing of children and young adults through effective behaviour management, safeguarding, and early intervention.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure safeguarding policies are regularly reviewed and updated.
Community Engagement:
- Build positive relationships with parents and the community, fostering partnerships to support student learning and wellbeing.
- Promote equality, diversity, and work-life balance, ensuring growth opportunities for all.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- GCSEs in English & Maths, Level 3 DSL training, and experience in special needs settings.
- Proven leadership in residential care, effective team management, and conflict resolution.
- Experience with safeguarding, behaviour strategies, and working with external agencies.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
