Consultant Psychiatrist - Male Secure Service,
South of England
Permanent | Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a well-established male secure hospital service providing both medium and low secure care. The purpose-built facility offers high-quality environments for assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of men with complex mental health needs and forensic histories.

You'll be working alongside a committed and experienced multidisciplinary team, delivering person-centred care that promotes recovery and safe reintegration into the community.

The Role

As Consultant Psychiatrist, you'll take a leading role in clinical decision-making and care planning, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive, evidence-based interventions in a therapeutic and secure setting. You will also provide leadership, supervision and guidance to other members of the clinical team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the Care Programme Approach (CPA) process for all patients.
  • Working collaboratively with nursing, psychology, social work and occupational therapy colleagues to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Escalating clinical concerns appropriately to senior medical or operational leads where necessary.
  • Providing visible and effective clinical leadership, fostering teamwork and professional development.
  • Offering teaching, supervision and appraisal to junior medical staff and supporting the training of other disciplines.
  • Representing medical perspectives in governance and service development meetings.
  • Ensuring appropriate application of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Building and maintaining constructive relationships with external agencies involved in patient care.
  • Supporting compliance with relevant quality and regulatory standards.

About You

You'll be a proactive and collaborative clinician who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and takes pride in delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care.

Requirements:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent recognised by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status.
  • Inclusion on (or eligibility for) the Specialist Register for Forensic Psychiatry is desirable.
  • Experience of working within forensic or secure psychiatric settings.
  • Ability to take independent clinical responsibility for patient care.
