a Local Authority in South London who are looking to appoint a talented Chief Accountant on an Interim basis are working with Spencer Clarke Group to find the successful candidate.

What's on offer:

• Hourly Rate: £71.77 - £97.22 per hour, inside IR35.

*negotiable based on experience

• 6 Months Initial Contract
• Contract type: Contract (36 hrs a week)
• Hours: 09:00 -17:00

About the role:

Based in South London (Hybrid):

The Council is seeking an experienced interim Chief Accountant to lead its technical accounting function, oversee the production of its Statement of Accounts, and maintain strong financial controls.

The role also supports senior leadership on accounting standards and carries responsibility for capital, VAT and Balance Sheet matters.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the production of the Council's single-entity and group accounts.
• Act as the primary advisor on financial accounting regulations to the Section 151 Officer.
• Oversee and maintain the Council's financial controls and key reconciliations.
• Manage senior relationships with External Audit, supporting the audit process.
• Lead capital and asset accounting, including year-end processes.
• Manage and develop the Financial Accounting team (up to 10 FTE).
• Provide technical accounting advice across the Council to support decision-making.
• Manage VAT returns and provide corporate VAT guidance.

About you:
You will have the following experience:

• Fully CCAB qualified (CIPFA, ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, or equivalent).
• Significant experience in local authority technical accounting.
• Proven track record delivering Statement of Accounts and leading year-end processes
