Interim Asset Building Surveyor
Location: North West
Contract: Interim, 3-6 months (potential to extend)
Rate: Circa £500 per day, inside IR35
Spencer Clarke Group are working with a local authority in the North West who are seeking an experienced Building Surveyor/Project Manager on an interim basis.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for a defined sector of the Council's building programme, requiring initiative, technical knowledge and strong project management skills. This is a hands-on role, covering everything from inspection and design through to contract administration and programme delivery.
Key responsibilities include
- Undertaking investigations, inspections and detailed condition surveys of council properties.
- Preparing specifications, managing procurement processes, and administering contracts through to completion.
- Advising schools, heads, and governing bodies on maintenance and building project issues.
- Liaising with senior client departments to develop briefs for building projects.
- Maintaining robust financial records and ensuring value for money across building projects.
- Coordinating contractors, consultants, and technical staff to ensure successful project delivery.
- Preparing reports, estimates, and correspondence, and attending meetings at senior levels.
- Ensuring full compliance with health & safety law, planning and building regulations.
About You
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Building Surveying.
- Strong project management and design experience.
- Extensive knowledge of planning and building regulations.
- Proven track record of managing contractors on site.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A full UK driving licence and flexibility to work across multiple sites.
- Professional qualification (MRICS, CIOB).
- Experience within the public sector, particularly schools or listed buildings.
