This is a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school dedicated to supporting pupils who have had negative educational experiences. Their aim is to provide a nurturing environment where every student can flourish, regardless of their past struggles. They work closely with pupils with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and SEMH needs, offering tailored support to help them overcome barriers to learning.

Job Description:

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing mentorship and guidance to students with challenging behaviour, helping them to re-engage with their education.
  • Assisting students with their academic studies, ensuring they receive the support they need to excel.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other staff members to create individualised support plans for students.
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
  • Building trusting relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and advocate for their needs.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or people with SEMH needs, particularly those with special educational needs or disabilities.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and communication skills
  • Alternate education qualifications in education or special education is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and resilience when working with children facing emotional challenges.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
