About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join a supportive and nurturing school in Blackpool. This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about helping pupils with additional needs, particularly those with behavioural, social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis, providing guidance, emotional regulation strategies, and positive behaviour support. You will play a vital role in creating a safe, calm, and structured learning environment where every child can build confidence, resilience, and achieve their potential.
This role would suit candidates with professional or personal experience in supportive roles such as Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Social Worker, or similar.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group behaviour support to pupils with SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD, and other additional needs
Support pupils in managing emotions, self-regulation, and developing coping strategies
Promote and encourage positive behaviour in and out of the classroom
Work alongside teachers to deliver structured interventions and inclusive learning activities
De-escalate challenging situations calmly and effectively
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and participation
Contribute to creating a safe, consistent, and positive learning environment
Requirements
Experience working in a behaviour support role, or as a Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Social Worker, or similar
Personal experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs will also be considered
A resilient, calm, and proactive approach
Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to work under pressure
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
Relevant training or qualifications (e.g., Team Teach, Positive Behaviour Support, CACHE Level 2/3) are desirable but not essential
