Role: Assistant SENDCo
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £27-32K, dependent on qualifications and experience (welcome bonus may apply)
Hours: 40 hours per week - Term Time Only
Typical Start/Finish: Start 8:15am, finish between 4pm-5pm depending on the day
About the School
This role is based within a new specialist secondary school for young people aged 11-16 with needs linked to social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing, often associated with Autism. The school offers:

A multidisciplinary intervention team
A personalised curriculum aligned with the national curriculum
The Assistant SENDCo will work primarily onsite with occasional travel to an associated satellite provision.
Main Purpose of the Role
To support the SENDCo in promoting and maintaining an inclusive approach to Special Educational Needs (SEN) across the school.
Key Duties
Recording and Assessment
Establish and manage systems for identifying, reviewing and monitoring need
Chair Annual Reviews for EHCPs
Maintain regular communication with parents, including meetings and parents' evenings
Leadership
Assist with delivering training for staff on SEN, including whole-school INSET
Share and promote good SEN practice across the school
Support transition planning and integration into post-16 or alternative pathways
Liaise with external professionals and share reports with staff
Stay up to date on SEN developments (research, law, policy) and brief senior leaders
Attend relevant CPD and provide feedback
Support teaching staff in modelling effective SEN practice, including for complex needs
Other Responsibilities
Carry out reasonable tasks assigned by the Headteacher
Participate in duties and extracurricular activities
Support as needed across a busy and evolving school environment
Candidate Qualities
SENCO / Access Arrangement Assessor qualifications preferred, or willingness to undertake training
GCSE English & Maths (Grade 4/C or above) essential
Teaching qualification preferred (required for completing National Award in SEND Coordination)
Strong, up-to-date experience working with pupils with SEN
Solid understanding of the SEND Code of Practice
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
