A rare opportunity has arisen to join a brand-new specialist school in Bristol who are looking for an experienced Assistant Head of School to join them in April 2026.
The school is a specialist setting for pupils who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a key leadership role, working closely with the Head of School and Principal, with responsibility for curriculum development, teaching and learning, staff development and school improvement within a specialist SEND setting.
The Role
- Provide strategic leadership for curriculum design, teaching and learning
- Lead and contribute to the School Improvement Plan, with a clear focus on pupil progress and outcomes
- Line manage and support teachers and support staff, including performance management
- Ensure robust assessment, data tracking and quality assurance across the school
- Work closely with the SENCo to ensure statutory responsibilities and pupil needs are met
- Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (following probation)
- Lead and deliver high-quality CPD and INSET for staff
- Build strong partnerships with parents, external professionals and agencies
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds QTS / QTLS / PGCE
- Has proven leadership experience within a SEND or specialist education setting
- Demonstrates strong curriculum and teaching & learning leadership
- Has experience turning policy into effective classroom practice
- Confident working with complex needs, multi-agency professionals and safeguarding
- Resilient, reflective and committed to inclusive education
- Leadership qualifications and specialist SEND training (e.g. Autism) are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
