Spencer Clarke Group Donates 100 Festive Food Parcels to Local Families

To ease the burden of the cost of living crisis this Christmas, we have donated 100 food parcels to local children and their families. The food parcels were distributed to 100 children across the Blackpool area via their school.

Each food parcel contains cupboard staples such as beans, soup, tuna, pasta, cereal, crisps, crackers, rice and tinned fruit. We’ve also included some festive favourites such as selection boxes, biscuits, Yule logs and Haribo.

Blackpool has one of the highest child poverty rates in the UK with nearly 12,500 children living in poverty and deprivation.

Child poverty is directly linked to education which creates a "conveyor belt of disadvantage." Children from low-income families often begin school with limited vocabulary and communication skills, and these gaps tend to grow over time. They may also have less access to educational resources and experience food insecurity, which can lead to hunger and difficulty concentrating in class. A combination of these factors leads to lower educational attainment and limited career opportunities later in life.

The Divisional Manager of our education team, Jamie Heath said “Child poverty affects every aspect of a child's life so we felt compelled to act. No child should go to bed feeling hungry and we hope that these food parcels will go a little way in easing the burden for families this Christmas.”

Managing Director, Mike Shorrock said “Child poverty is a big issue in our local area and while it will take systemic change from the government to fix the problem at the scale which it is needed, we do believe that everybody in the community should do what they can.”

Mike continued, “These food parcels perfectly align with our values of social responsibility and building brighter futures. By supporting children in their early years, they can dream of a better future.”
