A Year in Review: Top 25 Spencer Clarke Group Moments of 2025

1-2 minutes

As we wave goodbye to another incredible year, we’re taking a moment to reflect on everything we’ve achieved in 2025. From prestigious award wins and exciting new initiatives to team celebrations, charity work and continued business growth, it’s been a year packed full of proud milestones.

Here’s a look back at 25 standout moments that made 2025 a year to remember at Spencer Clarke Group!

1. A triple triumph at the Recruiter Awards

This year, we were absolutely thrilled to scoop three awards at the prestigious Recruiter Awards! We proudly took home Best Public/Third Sector Recruitment Agency, Best Temporary Recruitment Agency and Best Recruitment Agency Marketing Team.

Winning across three categories is an incredible testament to the talent and dedication of our entire team. From our consultants who deliver an outstanding recruitment service to our creative marketing team who amplify our brand, every member of our team played a part in these victories.

2. Supported Active Lancashire

We proudly continued our partnership with Active Lancashire, supporting a variety of brilliant initiatives that promote movement, wellbeing and community engagement across the region. Encouraging healthier lifestyles and providing opportunities for children and young people to connect through sport is something we’re deeply passionate about, so being involved in these programmes is always a highlight for us.

This year, our support reached even more young people. As the official T-shirt sponsor for the SPAR Lancashire School Games, we provided 10,000 shirts for students taking part in events across the county, helping them feel part of something special and giving them a keepsake to remember their achievements.

Throughout 2025, we also backed community sports initiatives and proudly sponsored the Primary and Secondary School categories at the Active Lancashire Awards, celebrating schools that are driving inclusivity and opportunity through sport.

3. We welcomed mini SCG members

2025 wasn’t just a year of professional success, it was a year overflowing with personal joy too! We were thrilled to welcome mini SCG members into the world as several of our team became parents for the first time or added to their growing families.

A huge congratulations to Mike Shorrock, Niall Murphy, Destiny Buck, Adam Zyda, Liam Jones, Annabelle Harwood, Rick Shorrock, Shannon Hughes, Cameron Nicholls and Denni-Marie Bassett, who all welcomed their little bundles of joy this year.

The celebrations don’t stop there, Destiny Buck and Lauren Fisher also shared their wonderful news that the pitter patter of tiny feet will return in 2026!

4. Recognised in two prestigious business rankings

Our growth, resilience and performance didn’t go unnoticed this year as we earned recognition in not just one, but two respected industry rankings, highlighting both our profitability and position within the recruitment sector.

We were incredibly proud to be placed #72 in Lancashire Business View’s Most Profitable SMEs of 2025 and #28 in the National Recruiter HOT 100 list.

These placements reflect more than just financial success, they represent the strength of our long-term strategy and the consistent results delivered by our teams across every division. As we continue to expand, achieving recognition in both rankings signals that we’re not only growing but we’re growing with purpose. It’s a milestone that inspires us to push even further in 2026 and beyond.

5. We turned eight

We turned eight this year! What began as a small but ambitious idea has grown into a thriving recruitment business trusted nationwide. Over the past eight years, we’ve expanded our teams, launched new divisions, supported thousands of careers and built lasting partnerships.

From the early days with just Mike Shorrock and Thomas Humphreys, to the team of 65 we are today, it’s been a journey fuelled by resilience and a shared vision.

No SCG milestone is complete without a bit of fun, so we channelled our inner 90s sitcom stars to mark the occasion, recreating a Friends-style video to celebrate how far we’ve come.

6. A fantastic night at the REC Awards

This year’s REC Awards was a huge moment for us as we proudly took home the title of Best Company to Work For. Creating a workplace where employees feel valued, supported and inspired is at the heart of everything we do, so bringing this award home was incredibly special.

We were also thrilled to see John Shorrock recognised with a Highly Commended award for Agency Star of the Year, celebrating his exceptional contribution to public sector recruitment. His impact this year has been nothing short of outstanding, and we couldn’t be prouder to see him acknowledged on such a prestigious stage.

It was a night of celebration and one we will look back on as a defining moment of 2025.

7. We delivered 100 festive food parcels to local families

This December, we were proud to support 100 Blackpool children and their families by delivering festive food parcels. Each parcel included essential groceries along with seasonal treats to help bring a little comfort and joy over the holidays.

With almost 12,500 children in Blackpool living in poverty, this initiative felt especially important, ensuring families facing hardship received practical support at a time when it’s needed most.

We’re honoured to play a small part in helping our local community feel supported this festive season.

8. We celebrated marriages and engagements

2025 was packed with heart-warming moments, and few were sweeter than watching members of our SCG family hit major life milestones.

This year, Lauren Fisher, Ellie Wallbank and Joe O’Halloran all said “I do”, tying the knot with their wonderful partners and marking the start of their happily-ever-afters.

We also saw Adam Zyda pop the big question. Here’s to newlyweds, future celebrations and maybe even a few more wedding dance floors to conquer in 2026!

9. A summer party to remember

Our summer party was definitely one of the standout days of the year. With live music, DJs, BBQ food and even an ice cream stand, it was the perfect chance to switch off and spend time together outside of work.

It was great to celebrate the team and everything we’ve achieved and we’re already looking forward to doing it all again next summer.

10. We planted over 1896 trees

Sustainability continued to be a priority for us in 2025. Through our partnership with Carma, we proudly planted 1,896 trees throughout the year, directly supporting reforestation initiatives and biodiversity protection.

This effort equates to an impressive 876 tonnes of CO₂ avoided, making a real contribution towards carbon reduction and climate preservation.

Every tree planted is a reminder of our responsibility to the environment and our dedication to driving long-term, positive impact. We look forward to continuing this work in 2026.

11. We donated school uniforms

This year, we were once again proud to support Home-Start Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre by donating 190 pieces of school uniform to families across the region.

With the rising cost of living, we know how much of a difference this kind of support can make.

For many children, something as simple as having the right clothing can enhance their confidence, participation and a sense of belonging at school. Helping them walk through the gates looking smart and full of pride is an impact we’re grateful to be part of.

12. We enjoyed many breakfast clubs

Our monthly breakfast clubs became a simple but meaningful ritual throughout 2025. A chance to start the day with good food and relaxed conversation outside of formal work settings.

They also evolved into one of our favourite office traditions. From raising money during our Macmillan Coffee Morning, to celebrating Roald Dahl Day with Bruce Bogtrotter–worthy chocolate cake, our breakfast clubs brought plenty of fun and food to the office.

13. We supported Helping Hearts Fylde

Our partnership with Helping Hearts Fylde continued throughout 2025, allowing us to support local families facing hardship. Each month, we donated 40kg of food, pet supplies and toiletries, alongside regular contributions of clothing, toys and games from our team, ensuring families receive not just essentials, but items that bring comfort and joy too.

We’re incredibly proud to continue backing such a meaningful cause and playing a small part in strengthening the community we’re part of.

14. We crowned many culture champions

Our culture sits at the heart of who we are, and our Culture Champions are the people who bring it to life every single day.

Every quarter, our employees have the opportunity to showcase how they’ve demonstrated one of our ten culture points. The winner doesn’t just receive recognition, they also take on a tense and entertaining round of Deal or No Deal, hosted by our very own Richard Shorrock, who channels a surprisingly convincing Noel Edmonds!

Our 2025 Culture Champions included Luke Meeks, Cameron Nicholls, Joel Khambay and Hannah Booth. Their influence continues to shape the environment we’re proud to call our workplace and we were delighted to celebrate each of them throughout the year.

15. We launched Spencer Bark Group

We officially launched Spencer Bark Group on Instagram, giving our office dogs their very own platform to keep tails wagging and spirits high. Their personalities and adorable appearances have certainly stolen the spotlight!

Alongside their Insta debut, we also released Spencer Bark Group colouring books to support the schools we work closely with. They’ve been a huge hit with pupils and Teachers alike, adding a little extra fun and creativity to classroom downtime.

It was a playful but purposeful way to grow our community footprint, strengthen relationships with schools and celebrate our four-legged colleagues who really did steal the show this year.

16. We hosted our first Directors Club

This year marked the launch of our very first Directors’ Club. Each quarter, our teams vote for their Employee of the Quarter and the winners are treated to a special Directors’ Club outing as recognition for their hard work and impact.

For our first celebration, the team headed to Manchester for a fun evening of darts followed by a fantastic meal at The Ivy.

The event was made even more memorable with the announcement of Richard Shorrock’s promotion to Associate Director, marking a proud milestone for both Richard and the business.

17. We donated and volunteered at our local foodbank

Each month, our team came together to visit and support Fylde Food Bank, helping provide essentials for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Whether volunteering on-site or organising donations, it was a practical way of supporting people who rely on vital local services.

Across the year, our team dedicated 48 hours of volunteering and donated an incredible 700kg of food - support that we know makes a difference to local households.

It’s a partnership that means a great deal to us, and one we look forward to continuing in 2026.

18. Our second annual golf day

Back by popular demand, our second annual SCG Golf Day brought colleagues together for a relaxed day of sport and friendly competition. With plenty of laughs, some impressive swings and a few creative shots from the bunkers, it was a brilliant way to connect outside office walls.

Our annual golf day is fast becoming one of our most anticipated yearly events and we’re already planning the next one.

19. We celebrated high achievers

Recognising success is a big part of who we are, and throughout 2025 we made sure to celebrate the individuals and teams who went above and beyond.

From Employees of the Month, Quarter and Year to Team of the Quarter and Team of the Year, we highlighted the standout contributions that helped drive SCG forward.

This year’s winners included Liam Richmond, Jimmy Callagher, John Shorrock and Kimara King-Hart, whose hard work, commitment and results truly shone.

Celebrating their achievements was a fantastic reminder of the talent and dedication that make our team so special.

20. We donated 22 bikes to 11 schools

This year, we were delighted to support 11 schools across Lancashire by donating 22 bikes in partnership with Active Lancashire and Active Cycles. The initiative was designed to give children greater access to cycling, helping them stay active and enjoy the independence and wellbeing benefits that riding a bike can bring.

Supporting young people through movement and opportunity is something we’re passionate about and knowing these bikes will be enjoyed in school playgrounds and beyond made this a particularly rewarding highlight of 2025.

21. We welcomed work experience students

We were thrilled to welcome three students for work experience placements, giving young people valuable insight into the world of recruitment, business operations and marketing.

Supporting early career development is something we’re passionate about and seeing the students grow in confidence and curiosity throughout their time with us was a real highlight.

22. We increased our employee headcount

2025 was another year of exciting expansion at SCG. As demand continued to rise and our divisions evolved, we were thrilled to welcome 12 amazing new team members, taking our headcount to its highest yet.

From recruitment consultants to support staff, every new face brought fresh ideas, energy, and talent to the business.

Seeing our teams evolve alongside the business reinforces how important our employees are to our journey and we can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store for them all.

23. We were highly commended for the Most Effective Compliance Operation

Our compliance team proudly received a Highly Commended recognition for Most Effective Compliance Operation at this year's Recruiter Awards. This accolade celebrated their meticulous standards, unwavering accuracy and commitment to ethical recruitment.

Not only did they demonstrate best-in-class process management, they also achieved an outstanding score of 99% in our most recent APSCo audit.

Their hard work ensures we operate with integrity and excellence and this recognition was thoroughly deserved!

24. We launched our December Kindness Challenge

To round off the year with positivity and purpose, we launched our December Kindness Challenge, inviting schools to join us in spreading small acts of goodwill throughout the festive season.

Designed to encourage pupils to think about generosity and community spirit, the challenge included simple daily prompts which promote kindness in classrooms, playgrounds and at home.

From thoughtful gestures to helping others, schools embraced the initiative brilliantly and seeing young people get excited about doing good reminded us just how powerful kindness can be.

We loved running the challenge and look forward to making it an annual tradition that inspires even more kindness in 2026.

25. We ended 2025 with a bang

We wrapped up 2025 with a bang at our Casino Royale–themed Christmas party and it was a night James Bond would have approved of.

With plenty of glitz, glamour, entertainment and celebration, it was the perfect opportunity to reflect on the year’s successes and enjoy time together away from the office.

A brilliant evening spent with an even more brilliant team. The ideal way to close an incredible year and step into 2026!
