About Spencer Clarke Group.

Founded in 2017, we’re an ambitious and award winning recruitment agency based in the heart of the North West. Operating nationwide, we work with local authorities (on and off frameworks), schools, multi-academy trusts, housing associations and direct employers to help them with their recruitment needs. 

We recruit interim, temporary, daily cover, and permanent professionals from entry to board level across multiple sectors. This includes education, special educational needs, housing, change and transformation, the built environment, healthcare and social care.    

We employ 60+ staff at our head office in Preston and we pride ourselves on being one of the leading employers in the North West. In 2025, we won Best Company to Work For at the REC Awards, a title we are extremely proud of.

Our Recruitment Consultants have a deep understanding of their sectors and take a consultative approach to address the unique challenges our clients face. Our Associate Director, Richard Shorrock, has received numerous accolades, including Best Temporary Consultant at the Global Recruiter Awards 2023, Temporary Recruiter of the Year at the REC Awards 2024, and Agency Star of the Year at the REC Awards 2024.

Managing Consultant, John Shorrock, also came highly commended for Agency Star of the Year at the 2025 REC Awards which demonstrates the culture of excellence which we strive for.

Our Career Hub provides tailored career advice including CV and cover letter tips, interview preparation, CPD support, and interviews with industry professionals to complement career advice with first-hand experience. The interviews add a real-world perspective to the Career Hub, making it more practical and credible while helping professionals make better-informed decisions about their skills, career paths, and job opportunities.

In 2025, we were humbled to win Best Public/Third Sector Recruitment Agency, Best Temporary Recruitment Agency and Best Recruitment Agency Marketing Team at the 2025 Recruiter Awards. We also came highly commended for the Most Effective Compliance Operation. These achievements reflect the high standards we set for ourselves every single day.

In 2025, we featured at number 28 in the Recruiter HOT 100 list and at number 72 in Lancashire Business Views hot 100 most profitable SME’s. 

In 2024, we also proudly received the title of Recruitment Agency of the Year at the Recruiter Awards.

With an extensive background in recruitment, in 2017, Managing Director Mike Shorrock took a leap of faith and opened the Spencer Clarke Group doors.

Mike’s vision was clear: to redefine how recruitment should be done, become the agency of choice across the public and private sectors, establish the business as one of the North West’s leading employers, and actively support the local community.

Over the years, and with an incredible team to support him, Mike has more than achieved his vision. With a growing team of 60+ employees, we’ve successfully launched into new sectors, expanded into additional office space, and picked up an impressive haul of industry awards along the way.
