Job description

Spencer Clarke Group are working closely alongside Southampton City Council to provide them with a Senior Research, Insight & Consultation Officer on a 6 month initial contract which is likely to be extended.


This role is 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday and offers a pay rate of £18 - £22 per hour. May be negotiable.

As a successful Senior Research, Insight & Consultation Officer, your duties will be:

  • To deliver a comprehensive and effective programme of consultation and engagement with residents, partners, staff and other stakeholders, including on high profile public interest issues, to inform decision making, transformation and service improvement.
  • To deliver innovative and proactive social and market research to ensure reliable and nuanced insight is available that enables the council to better understand customer needs, behaviours and motivations.
  • To provide professional and technical oversight and support relating to consultation, research and engagement, ensuring legal and corporate requirements are met and reducing the risk of challenge.
  • To develop joined up, effective and efficient consultation, research and engagement frameworks, toolkits and timetables, to ensure there is a consistent and efficient approach across the organisation and key partnerships.


To be considered, you will have the following knowledge/experience:

  • Significant experience in a market research/insight or related role.
  • To have experience of designing, undertaking and coordinating effective public consultation which is robust and legally compliant.
  • To have experience of delivering market and social research programmes and activities delivering high quality information.
  • To have excellent numerical, research and analytical skills, and experience of applying statistical analysis, extrapolating and interpreting results verbally and in writing, in ways appropriate to the needs of diverse audiences.
