Spencer Clarke Group are recruiting SEND Teachers to support a large, well-established specialist school in Durham.

This setting supports children and young people with a wide range of additional needs across key stages, including pupils with complex learning difficulties, autism, communication needs, sensory needs and pupils working across a highly personalised curriculum.

This is a brilliant opportunity for teachers who are passionate about specialist education and want to work in a setting where learning is creative, practical, individualised and focused on preparing pupils for future independence, life skills and positive outcomes.

The school offers a varied curriculum and a strong team approach, with teaching staff working closely alongside support staff, pastoral teams, therapists and wider professionals to ensure each pupil receives the right level of support.

The role will involve:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils with SEND
  • Supporting learners across a personalised curriculum, from early developmental levels through to accredited pathways
  • Creating structured, safe and positive learning environments
  • Using EHCP outcomes to support progress and development
  • Working closely with teaching assistants and wider school teams
  • Adapting learning to meet a wide range of communication, sensory and physical needs
  • Supporting pupils with independence, social development and preparation for adulthood
  • Building strong relationships with pupils, families and professionals
  • Contributing to a positive, inclusive and ambitious school culture


The ideal candidate will have:

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience working with pupils with SEND, autism, complex needs, SLD, PMLD or SEMH
  • A flexible, creative and nurturing teaching style
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • The ability to personalise learning for individual pupils
  • A calm and resilient approach
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice


Applications are welcome from experienced SEND Teachers, secondary teachers with SEND experience, primary-trained teachers with specialist experience, or mainstream teachers who are confident adapting learning for pupils with additional needs.
