Title: Primary SEND Teacher

Salary: £160 - £225 per day

Location: Bedford

Mon-Fri (5 days a week, Full time) - ongoing long term temporary position until May 2025 at the earliest, starting ASAP!!!

Overview:

Spencer Clarke Group are working closely with an Ofsted-graded Good school in Northampton who require a specialist SEND teacher to start with them as soon as possible!


While the school is a mainstream setting, they have set up a specialist provision for pupils with autism, moderate to severe learning difficulties and complex medical needs. The class has 9 pupils who are all Key Stage 1 age and predominantly non-verbal.


The school require someone to oversee management of the setting and teach the class, covering for long term sickness. Therefore the roe is ideally suited to an experienced classroom practitioner who has supported SEN children within their own classroom setting.


Your role as an SEND Teacher will involve:

  • Teach either individuals or small groups of pupils within a specialist provision
  • Responsibility for overseeing the provision on a day-to-day basis and liaise closely with the Senior Leadership Team
  • Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils
  • Teaching a class of 9 KS1 pupils with a range of additional needs, which include severe ASD, complex medical requirements and physical/ learning disabilities.
  • Use special equipment and facilities, such as audio-visual materials and computers to stimulate interest in learning
  • Assess children who have long or short-term learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual pupils' special needs
  • Liaise with other professionals, such as learning support assistants, social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists
  • Work closely with parents and guardians
  • Assist in severely disabled pupils' personal care/medical needs
  • Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupils' progress


You should have:

  • Qualified Teacher status ideally, or the school will accept a minimum of Level 4 for candidates highly experienced supporting SEND pupils.
  • Some experience with teaching SEND children or having completed further education around Psychology or mental health.
  • Experience of differentiating for lower ability pupils within the EYFS/ KS1 National Curriculum.
  • Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Online Update Service (or be prepared to obtain one for a fee).
