If you’re searching for a rewarding and fulfilling career opportunity, look no further. Spencer Clarke Group are working alongside Rotherham Borough Council to appoint a talented Principal Finance Officer on a contract basis.
The role is primarily responsible for implementing the new IFRS accounting standard on leases. This will involve collecting information, interpreting the standard and determining the correct treatment and accounting transactions required. The role will also involve assisting with the production of the annual accounts so experience of the annual accounts process, preferably in a public sector organisation is desirable. Specific Key Duties/Areas of Responsibility
- Responsible for implementing the new accounting standard on leases IFRS16. This will involve identifying current lease arrangements, liasing with services to collect information about leases held and identifying the correct accounting treatment of leases in line with the new standard.
- Assisting with the preperation of the annual accounts. This includes liasing with services to ensure that year end tasks are performed on time and the creation of working papers.
General Key Duties/Areas of Responsibility
- Use and maintain knowledge of Local Government Financial regulations to ensure RMBC finances are compliant, and compiled according to best practice
- Proactively initiate and implement improvements and developments in financial and business systems, processes and procedures
- Carry out the day-to -day performance management of designated Finance Officers, including allocation and control of workload and performance and development reviews (PDRs) and identification of training needs to facilitate service improvement
- Participate in, and contribute to, key projects on Corporate/Directorate areas of activity involving Council-wide/cross-Directorate strategies that promote innovation and creativity.
- Deputise as required for the Finance Manager.
- Determine priority work areas and plan, organise and control selected areas of work
- Prepare reports on major and complex issues to senior management
- Assist in preparing and maintaining a business plan
- Contribute to key projects on Finance Service areas of activity
- Take a lead role in the provision of a business partnering service, including system and process development.
