Job description

Spencer Clarke Group are working closely alongside Southampton City Council to provide them with an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor on a 6 month initial contract, that may be extended.


This role is 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

Pay rate offered: £15-£19 per hour


As a successful Independent Domestic Violence Advisor, your duties will be:

  • To pro-actively contact victims identified through the High Risk Domestic Abuse (HRDA) process within MASH prior to the HRDA discussion (including an immediate crisis response, as required), explain and request individuals consent, seek the victims safety views, assess current risks and help to provide a premium service to reduce risk of further harm to the victim and their children.
  • To be an advocate for the victim in the MASH/HRDA hub as required, and in contacts with other services to ensure clients receive the relevant, appropriate and timely services to which they are entitled.
  • To ‘navigate’ DVA case referrals in the Multi-agency MASH/HRDA hub where high risk has been identified within the agreed MASH / HRDA timescales
  • To be able to interrogate different systems, swiftly analyse information and provide accurate factual information in relation to risks to children, young people and adults.
  • To be confident in identifying the risks to CYP and adults and to share relevant data within MASH including where appropriate attending and participating in multi-agency discussions, including providing professional challenge to agencies if needed. To complete any IDVA follow up action as a result of the discussion or as required by the HRDA meeting.
  • To ensure that clear and accurate information is recorded on each IDVA client’s record.


To be considered, you will have the following knowledge/experience:

  • Trained to national accredited levels for IDVA* and/or a graduate or extensive equivalent experience to demonstrate ability to undertake the IDVA role and attain swiftly the necessary technical knowledge of complex legal and statutory processes in order to provide a high level of expert advice on complex and high risk DSA cases.
  • To have the depth of knowledge required to support very vulnerable and high risk cases
  • To have experience of providing advice or advocacy to vulnerable adults in a multi-agency context
  • To advocate for clients cross-service environment and to confidently gain the trust of both clients and colleagues across services to deliver the services required to make the victim safer
  • To possess knowledge and understanding of the impact of domestic violence and abuse on victims and children including common issues, risks and challenges, in order to deliver a victim-centred approach
