If you’re searching for a rewarding and fulfilling career opportunity, look no further. Spencer Clarke Group are working alongside a local authority in Caerphilly to appoint a talented Assistant Accountant on a temporary basis. 

As Assistant Accountant you’ll play a vital role in:

  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets and closure of accounts of the Social Services Directorate
  • Facilitate appropriate payments to care providers and service users
  • Assist budget holders to manage budgets effectively
  • Provide day to day management of staff within the accountancy

Further duties include:

  • Preparation of detailed budgets for the Social Services Directorate in accordance with corporate deadlines
  • Preparation of bi-monthly budget monitoring reports for the Social Services Directorate
  • Closure of the accounts for the Social Services in accordance with corporate deadlines
  • Prompt and accurate processing of supplier invoices via the authority’s purchase ledger system
  • Responsibility for the day-to-day management of specified staff, offering advice on prioritising workload
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Social Services revenue budget calculations in line with corporate guidelines and timescales
  • Contribute towards the development of medium term financial plans for the Social Services Directorate by identifying cost pressures and potential efficiencies
  • Contribute to the closure of revenue accounts in line with corporate guidelines and timescales
  • Contribute towards the maintenance of the financial accounts for the directorate
  • Produce regular budget monitoring information and to ensure that budget holders are aware of the implications of this information
  • Produce costings for service delivery options
  • Develop, implement and review systems which will assist budget holders to manage budgets effectively
  • Provide training in budgetary control techniques and systems
  • Provide advice on financial coding to ensure that all income and expenditure within social services can be identified to an appropriate budget
  • Contribute towards the annual Financial Services Performance Plan
  • Attend and contribute to meetings as required by senior managers
  • Raise debtor invoices and internal invoices as appropriate

The ideal candidate for this position will:

  • Association of Accounting Technicians Level 4 or relevant NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent)
  • An understanding of the purpose of financial code
  • An understanding of commitment accounting
  • An understanding of accruals and prepayment
  • Ability to work on own initiative but also as part of a Team
  • Organised approach to work
  • Demonstrates a professional approach
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to set deadlines

  • Salary: £16.71 per hour
  • Contract type: Contract till March 2022 (With view to extend)
  • Hours: 37 hours per week
