Job description

Spencer Clarke Group are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Hampshire to provide them with an Asbestos Manager on an ongoing contract.

 

This is full time, Monday – Friday and offers a pay rate of £20-£25 per hour. This may be negotiable dependent on experience.

 

This Role has the option to be fully remote working.

 

As a successful Asbestos Manager, your duties will be:

· To act as the Appointed Person under the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) for the asbestos management of Southampton City Council’s domestic, corporate and commercial portfolios.

· To be responsible for the ownership, development and implementation of the Council’s Domestic Asbestos Management Plan, ensuring that Southampton City Council meets its duties under the Control of Asbestos Regulations for domestic, and non-domestic premises and their general and specific duties of care to residents, SCC staff, contractors and members of the public that may access the Council’s buildings.

· To develop and deliver a risk based programme of asbestos management surveys for SCC properties, ensuring consistency and quality of completed surveys and data by the effective use of assurance procedures.

· To organise the required third-party quality assurance necessary to validate completed surveys, to report on and monitor related activity.

· To ensure the closure / completion / management of all asbestos related actions on behalf of Southampton City Council.

· To oversee the implementation and management of Southampton City Council’s asbestos register for domestic premises and ensure that survey records are accurate and updated when any changes to asbestos material occur.

· Develop risk-based planned programmes of asbestos removal and remediation activities for domestic and non-domestic properties across the Council.

 

To be considered, you will have the following knowledge/experience:

· Educated to degree level or minimum Level 4 Full technical certificate, BTEC, HND/HNC in construction, building surveying or similar discipline and equivalent relevant experience.

· BOHS P405: Management of Asbestos, or UKATA Duty to Manage Appointed Person.

· Experience of managing asbestos in social housing (Local Authority or Housing Association) including extensive survey and removal projects.

· Understanding of the use of asbestos materials as part of passive fire protection systems.

· Evidence of a thorough understanding of asbestos register databases and their effective use in environments with high volumes of assets.

· Experience of property related health and safety legislation and the specific requirements of CDM.
