We recently caught up with Recruitment Consultant, Shannon Broadbent, to discover what motivates her the most at work and which famous actor she once met buying slippers!
How long have you worked at Spencer Clarke Group?
I have worked at Spencer Clarke Group since March 2022 and I already feel like part of the Spencer Clarke Group family!
What markets do you specialise in?
I specialise in Accountancy and Finance, focusing on clients and candidates who are based in the Midlands.
What do you love most about what you do?
Because recruitment is such a fast-paced industry, the days go by really fast and there is always something to focus on.
Spencer Clarke Group has a great work environment and there is never a dull moment in the office. Even on busy days, there is always a great team spirit that helps me to keep going!
What motivates you at work?
I am motivated by seeing my candidates securing a role that they love as much as I love my role here at Spencer Clarke Group! The financial incentives that come with my job are great and will really help me whilst I am saving to get a dog with my boyfriend.
There are lots of other great incentives that are provided too such as fun company days out and these also motivate me to achieve to the best of my ability!
How would you describe working at Spencer Clarke Group?
Everyone here works really hard to achieve their personal and team targets. Although we are in an office environment and our candidates and clients come first, we always find time to have fun and celebrate our successes.
Calling my job ‘work’ feels wrong because the office culture is so strong, it doesn't feel like work.
Tell us about your career path so far
Between 2013 - 2016, I studied Law at Edge Hill University; however, I decided that this wasn’t the career for me.
After graduating, I began a job at Barclay’s where I progressed to the role of Moment Banker. I worked closely with our customers, helping them with insurance, mortgages and day-to-day banking.
During the pandemic, I decided to look into other potential career opportunities and that is when I came across the role here at Spencer Clarke Group. I applied immediately and I haven’t looked back since!
How would your colleagues describe you?
I hope my colleagues would describe me as friendly, fun and approachable!
Where are we most likely to find you outside of work?
When I’m not at work, I love to go out for a nice meal; I would class myself as a real foodie! However, I also love proper ‘pub-grub’ and my favourite meal would have to be gammon and chips!
I also love a good box-set, I recently watched a series called The Split which I really enjoyed!
Tell us something we’d never guess about you!
When I’m not at Spencer Clarke Group, I spend my time training Guide Dogs. My Mum and Dad are puppy walkers so they have their own dog who I regularly take out for training sessions.
Whilst it’s always difficult saying goodbye to the dogs, when they find their forever home, being part of their training journey is so rewarding and it makes it all worth it!
What’s next for you at Spencer Clarke Group?
My overall goal would be to progress to a managerial role and to oversee my own team here one day. In the short term, I am focused on making sure my candidates secure their dream job!
10 Quick Fire Questions!
What’s your favourite film?
It has to be Titanic because it’s such a classic and I am so invested in Rose and Jack’s love story.
Where’s the best place you’ve travelled to?
It would have to be France, I’d love to live there one day!
What advice would you give to your young self?
I would tell myself to live in the moment and don’t take anything too seriously.
Have you ever met anyone famous?
I once met John Barrowman in Marks & Spencers! He was buying slippers with his Mum!
What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?
I’d definitely take a blanket, a chicken kebab and a bottle of wine - at least if I don’t make it off, I’ll have gone out with a bang!
Do you have any pets?
I don’t personally but my parents do own a dog (which I like to claim as mine!)
Do you have any hidden talents?
Yes, they're hidden for a reason though …
What’s the best gig you’ve been to?
I wouldn’t say they are a top tier band, but my younger self would definitely choose Busted.
What animal is your spirit animal?
It would probably be a dog because I’m pretty chilled out but I do like to be looked after!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
It would probably be a chicken kebab, hence why I’m taking one to that island!
